Abstract

The rapid development of celular telephone networks in recent years has increased the need for good solution techniques for the frequency assignment problem on cellular networks. The solution methods can be divided in two parts: exact optimization methods on the hand, and heuristic search techniques on the other hand. As most variants of the problem are NP-hard, therefore use of heurisic is the only choice. In this report we give a formal definition of the optimization problem that appears in a part of design of a practical GSM network. In this part we show and describe use of several heuristics and neighborhoods. Preliminary results of the computational experiments are very promising and can be used by the company.
