Human endogenous retroviruses (HERVs) are ancient viral sequences within the human DNA. Recently, HERV expression has been detected in humans. However, the expression patterns of individual HERVs are mostly unknown. We use a hidden Markov mixture models with EST data for estimating the activities of individual HERVs in various tissues.
