Abstract

This thesis targets visual object detection in images and videos. Our focus is towards robust encoding of image regions to high-dimensional feature vectors where object/non-object decisions can be made with higher accuracy. The thesis proposes different descriptors based on oriented histograms for image and video encoding, and provides in depth study on how different descriptors and their parameters effect the object detection performance.
