Abstract

Abstract: This paper presents the results of an investigation into the design of low cost, four degree of freedom force/torque resolvers for use in compact haptic devices for surgical training. Two designs using piezo-resistive sensors are described and one using strain gauges. The advantages and disadvantages of each approach are stated and conclusions presented.
